6th August 2024
The Reds picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory against Stebonheath Park on Tuesday night. Goals from Ethan Cann, Joe Lloyd and Danny Williams secured all three points in the first home game of the season.
Lee John's side took an early lead following a lot of high pressure in the opening five minutes. A great move by Cann who broke into the box, cutting inside and curling his shot passed Josh Winstone.
Lewis Iles almost doubled the lead for the Reds 10 minutes later with a strong headed chance from a corner, the ball rising just over the bar. Just after the 20 minute mark, Cann had a chance to score his second, his effort forcing Winstone into a save at full stretch.
Just minutes later some great work from the Reds down the right hand side resulted in the ball finding Lloyd on the edge of the area. His curling strike from range was able to beat Winstone into the far left corner.
Lloyd then looked for his second of the game, a great run followed by a shot that forced Winstone into action. The Reds continued their dominance with another chance on goal before the break, Cann was able to break through into the box - laying it off to Lloyd whose shot was saved.
Cwmbran got themselves back into the game just five minutes into the second half. Meaney found himself with a chance to slot home a simple shot on goal.
Thomas Meechan came close to scoring a goal of the season contender for the visitors, some fine footwork allowed him to attempt a long range strike which hit the bar.
Iles almost increased the lead for the Reds as his attempt on goal forced Winstone into a save at full stretch. Cwmbran enjoyed most of the better chances in the second half, a number of dangerous efforts coming close to an equaliser.
The Reds then sealed victory with just four minutes to play. Great work from Henry Jones and Cann who set up Williams who calmly finished the chance, securing a win for the Reds.
