Report: Reds 3-1 Caerau Ely
7th March 2025
The Reds added another crucial three points to the board with a 3-1 win at home to Caerau Ely. Goals from Ethan Cann, Liam Eason and Danny Williams saw off a late consolation goal from Hywel Davies to ensure another win under the lights at Stebonheath Park.
A slow and cagey opening 20 minutes saw the Reds enjoy the majority of possession. Despite enjoying more of the ball, no real chances were created following a strong showing from the Caerau Ely back line.
The Reds had their first big chance of the first half when Bradley Gibbings got himself onto a loose ball - his shot was well saved by the feet of Exauce Dimonekene.
The majority of the first half played out quietly but was awoken by a first chance for the visitors just minutes before the break. A great piece of play followed by a well placed cross failed to connect for an effort on goal.
The Reds started the second half on the front foot, a great ball in behind for Gibbings saw the winger shoot on target with his shot saved well by Dimonekene.
It was then just a minute later that the ball fell to Cann in front of goal, his strike a powerful shot along the floor proving to be too much for the keeper.
The Reds found themselves two in front just as the clock hit the hour mark. A fantastic ball in behind was met by Eason who carried the ball into the area.
Eason then composed himself at close range before firing his effort across goal giving the keeper no chance to stop it.
The Reds stayed on top in the second half, Taylor Jones saw his fine effort from a free kick saved strongly by Dimonekene. Continuous pressure saw another close effort on goal, this time from Danny Williams.
Williams made the best of a closely contested situation and fired low on target, forcing Dimonekene into yet another save with 15 minutes to play.
Caerau Ely then set up a nervy finish at Stebonheath Park, Hywel Davies broke into the area and fired his shot past John Chesters to reduce the deficit to just a single goal with only one minute of the 90 to go.
However, the Reds quickly put a stop to any chance of a tight finish to the game. Williams beat Dimonekene to the ball close to the halfway line and fired a long range strike into an empty net to seal all three points for the Reds.
