Report: Reds 2-0 Baglan Dragons

30th December 2024

The Reds were victorious in their final game of the calendar year, defeating Baglan Dragons at Stebonheath Park by two goals to nil. Goals from Henry Jones sealed a huge three points which sees the Reds top the JD Cymru South table heading into 2025.

A slow start to the game saw no real chance for either side within the first 15 minutes. Ethan Cann was replaced by Alex Giardelli early on following an injury.

Sean Cronin produced a fine tackle to deny a dangerous attack from the visitors, their first real move of the game. The Reds’ first threat came as Bradley Gibbings broke away down the right hand side, his pass finding Danny Williams who attempted a skilful effort on goal.

Henry Jones put the Reds in front just after the 20 minute mark. Some great pressure saw the Reds win possession before Jones let his strike fly from range, beating the keeper across goal and into the top corner.

Jones found Williams with a fantastic pass in behind as the Reds continued to apply pressure. The forward broke into the area but just dragged his shot wide.

Alex Giardelli made it two for the Reds just before the break. His initial header created a fantastic chance which was blocked well by the Baglan back line.

Giardelli then got onto the rebound, his strike on the volley over the head of Matthew Stanton to increase the Reds’ lead.

Baglan grew into the game to start the second half, enjoying more of the ball however the Reds back line stood tall and were able to deny any real goalscoring opportunity.

Scott Coughlan produced a fine double save to deny the visitors a goal. The keeper saved the initial free kick before producing a heroic stop from close range to deny the follow up effort.

The Reds continued their strong defending to see out the three points, continuing a fine run of games unbeaten.
