Report: Reds 0-1 Ammanford

21st February 2025

The Reds were defeated on derby day at Stebonheath Park against Ammanford following a free kick goal from Lewis Reed.

The Reds opened the game on the front foot, forcing Ammanford keeper Luke Martin into a strong save within the opening two minutes.

Sean Cronin came close to an opener on what was his 100th appearance for the club. A great cross into the box 10 minutes into the game saw the defender have his headed effort saved.

Ammanford began to grow into the game, turning the contest into a typical derby day affair. Danny Williams came close to putting the Reds in front just before the 25 minute mark, a diving header striking the crossbar.

Louis Caramella-Gerrard was sent off just after the half hour mark reducing the Reds to 10 men. Lewis Reed then stepped up to take the free kick awarded, converting off the post from range to give the visitors the lead.

The Reds had a chance to find an equaliser just after  the 40 minute mark. A header following a well delivered corner proving to be an easy catch for Martin.

The first chance of the second half came 10 minutes into the 45. A great cross from Ethan Cann finding Cronin whose header was well saved once again by Martin.

Despite the Reds continuing to try and find an equaliser, the Ammanford defence stood strong and produced a great piece of defensive work to deny Liam Eason just after the hour mark.

Martin produced another strong save for the visitors, denying the Reds from close range shortly after Eason’s effort. Martin then produced another stop, this time to deny Cronin from close range following a corner.

Despite the Reds continuing to attempt to break the Ammanford defence for much of the second half, the visitors stayed strong deep into the last minutes of the 90.
