Catch Up With Lee John - 29/11/24
29th November 2024
The Reds now sit second the JD Cymru South and have advanced to the fourth round of the JD Welsh Cup in recent weeks.
Tomorrow sees us travel to Carmarthen to take on the Old Gold in the second of this seasons Carmarthenshire derby. In the previous fixture at Stebonheath Park the points were shared.
Ahead of tomorrows game against Carmarthen Town, we caught up with manager Lee John to discuss the game and the busy previous weeks of fixtures.
Reflecting on the previous run of games, including Fridays impressive win against Goytre United, Lee John said; "It’s been really difficult to be honest, as we’re still playing catch up from so many points dropped at the start of the season. Every game there’s pressure and people expect us to roll opposition teams over. It’s never that easy in any game of football."
Looking ahead to tomorrows game against rivals Carmarthen, the gaffer stated; "They have quality players, especially in forward areas, a couple of them should be in the Welsh Premier League in my opinion. They’ve already beaten Trethomas, Cambrian and Newport at home this season so that tells you how difficult the game will be."
When asked about the previous game at Stebonheath Park, he said; "The home game we should’ve been out of sight by half time. Even with 10 men we were much the better team. Saturday will be totally different though.
As the home team i’m sure they’ll try and take initiative and stamp their authority on the game early on."
Many people will be looking at players to watch in such a fixture. Bradley Gibbings has been in fine form for the Reds and when asked about the forward, Lee John explained; "In fairness Brad’s been great all season, he missed a large chunk of pre season but now he’s finding his feet. However, this needs to be the consistent level of form and Brad is more than capable of that. I hope he can score against his old club on Saturday and continue his good form for the Reds."
Finally, the Reds have been drawn against Welsh Premier League side Haverfordwest County in the next round of the JD Welsh Cup and commenting on the result of the draw, the gaffer concluded with; "A brilliant but very difficult West Wales derby. Nothing to lose for us and everything to gain. It’s not a game we’re even considering right now though, our sole focus is Carmarthen away this Saturday."
