Danny Williams: "There's definitely a few higher levels that we can and want to reach"

29th October 2024

Following his brace and man of the match award in our previous win against Taffs Well last Friday night, we caught up with first team forward Danny Williams to discuss his time at the Reds so far, as well as his ambitions for this season.

Danny joined the Reds in the January transfer window, this year. Reflecting on his time at the club so far, he said;

"I’ve really enjoyed my time at Llanelli so far, it’s a club I can say I’ve always wanted to play for. It's a proper football club that has always had that feel to it both when I was an opposition player and now that I’m a part of it."

There was a number of changes within the squad in the summer transfer window, as well as now a number of new calls up from our development side. Speaking about the current group of players as well as the current dressing room atmosphere, Danny revealed;

"We have a very talented group of players in the squad, very driven. We know what we can do as a collective but we haven’t quite hit the level where we should be as of yet - we’ve shown it in patches but enough overall, there’s definitely a few higher levels that we can and want to reach. The mood within the squad is content for now because we want more and there’s definitely a strong feeling of determination to reach that amongst the strong togetherness here.

The JD Cymru South has proved to be an incredibly competitive division once again this season with only five points separating the top six. Each game presents a new challenge, upon reflecting on the outlook of each game, Danny explained;

"It’s a competitive league anyone can beat anyone on their day but I back this group of players that we have. If we’re at our absolute best we have the ability to beat anyone, but you cannot take your eye off any team in this league as you’ll get punished - which we have found out on a few occasions so far this season."

Llanelli are currently the joint top goal scoring side in the league so far this season. Reflecting on both his personal contributions and that of his teammates, the forward stated;

"We’ve got a fair few options in the forward areas, all different but we’ve got some real quality. I think the stats speak for themselves, we’re the top scorers at the minute (in the league), it’s definitely a strength of ours. Personally, not bad in terms of minutes to goals but I’m not where I want to be quite yet there’s definitely more to come."

Having a well balanced and positive support group surrounding you in football is one of the many keys to being successful. When asked about who has influenced his career so far, Danny explains the importance of family, friends and teammates, saying;

"Family and friends are obviously a big influence, they don’t let you get too high or too low in your mind. Also, my teammates throughout the years, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a bad dressing room (thankfully) in my career so far, that’s massive in football. At the end of the day, they’re the ones you're with 2/3 times a week all fighting for 3 points and for each other each weekend."

Finally, we asked Danny about aspirations for the season, both personally and for the club as a whole. He began by saying;

"Personally, I have a number of goals in my mind, I won't say the exact amount but I want double figures by Christmas. I’m at the halfway point right now but I know I’ve got to be fit and available as much as possible in order to do that."

Before concluding with;

"For the club, promotion - it’s as simple as that. Llanelli are definitely a Welsh premier club, we’ve got a lot of work to do and many games to go yet but I feel it’s more than achievable."
