It was a fourth straight defeat for the Reds as goals from Mael Davies and Chris Venables – both from set pieces proved to be the key on Bank Holiday Monday at the DragonBet Stadium.
The first real chance of the game came as Nathan Wood put a great ball into the box finding Chris Venables who just headed over the bar.
The hosts found themselves ahead in the 12th minute. A corner put into the area turned in from close range by Penybont captain Mael Davies.
Penybont stayed on top for the majority of the opening half hour. The hosts controlled the game and only allowed the Reds to have minimal chances – not resulting in any real danger.

The Reds had their biggest chance of the game, 34 minutes in. Sean Cronin struck a great shot on target but Archie Matthews produced a superb one handed stop to keep the hosts in front.
Just minutes later Penybont came close to a second, a shot from range striking the bar.
Mike Lewis then produced a great double save one minute into additional time in the first half. Firstly a quick stop to deny Venables before also getting down to save the second.
Penybont then extended their lead to two just before the break. Once again from a set piece the loose ball found Venables, his shot finding the net.

The hosts continued to dominate much of the ball in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, creating a good chance for a third but failing to hit the target.
The Reds came very close to getting a goal back, a chance in front of goal just over the bar from close range.
Alex Bonthron came within an inch of getting the Reds back into the game in the 73rd minute. A great pass from Morgan Evans finding the striker whose shot beat the keeper but rolled onto the post.

Despite the Reds finding brief spells of luck going forward, the hosts continued to dominate much of the ball, comfortably keeping their two goal cushion with 10 to play.
The Reds almost found the net again with just three minutes to play, Matthews producing an incredible one handed stop once again.
